Fun & Free: Week of July 18

The BLT Duet sets up for a Tuesday, July 19 gig at the 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Company’s tasting room in Vail Village for a 4 PM show. Featuring local jazz legend Tony G along with Brian Loftus, the Duet will be playing on assorted Saturdays and Tuesdays through July. You can get a taste of Tony's classy style here, and although these gigs are free, you may want to remember to bring your wallet as the whiskies and ryes behind the bar are a tempting and will cost you. Not everyone is into music and for some of the younger citizens of our valley 7:30 pm is well past their bedtime. That’s what makes the 10 am kickoff of Superhero Day perfect for the tiny – yet super – kids on the block. This fun and free event is hosted by the Bookworm in Edwards on Saturday, July 23. Dress up as your favorite superhero and sit in for a superhero story time, with crafts and other activities. Info
Superheroes are great, but for the older crowd, the alt-heroes of cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show are on display at the Basalt Summer Cinema located in Lions Park. In the 6 pm Saturday, July 23 screening of the cult classic sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O'Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named "Rocky." Info
