Public School Holiday Movie Matinee

Oct. 18, 1-2:45 p.m., Avon Public Library, Avon

The kids have a day off of school and the Avon Public Library is helping fill up that space with a free screening of “Pokémon Detective Pickachu.” In a world where humans and Pokémon live side by side, Tim enlists the help of Detective Pikachu, a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth, when his detective dad goes missing. Rated PG.


Champagne Day Celebration

Oct. 18, 6 p.m., Grand Hyatt Vail, West Vail

An excuse isn’t necessary to enjoy a glass of bubbly, but International Champagne Day is certainly a reason to raise a glass. The Grand Hyatt Vail is celebrating with a Champagne sabering and complimentary glasses of Moët Impérial to toast the upcoming winter season. Additional glasses can be purchased for $20.19 throughout the evening and Moët & Chandon specialists will be on hand for the event to discuss champagne and make pairing suggestions.




Oct. 19, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Barre Forte, Edwards

Raise money for The Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group while sculpting your body during this all-day barre competition at Barre Forte Vail Valley. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, teams of four can compete in an all-day barre competition, with eight classes offered between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. $10.


Tree Pruning 101

Oct. 19, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Eagle County Government Building (500 Broadway St), Eagle 

Are your trees looking a little scraggly? Want to get them in shape for the winter? Join ISA Certified Arborist Nick Close for a free workshop that will teach you the basics of proper tree and shrub pruning. After an educational presentation, head over to the Brush Creek Community Garden for hands-on practice.


Champagne Brunch

Oct. 19, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Gessner, Grand Hyatt Vail, West Vail

Kick off your Saturday with champagne. Gessner, Grand Hyatt Vail’s signature restaurant will elevate your brunch experience with a special “bubbly brunch” menu that includes lighter-than-air champagne pancakes, live entertainment and $20.19 glasses of Moët Ice with a unique celebratory twist. Reservations are recommended.


Vail Brewing Comedy Show

Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m., Vail Brewing Company, Eagle-Vail

If laughter is the best medicine, this show will serve as your flu shot for the season. Join host Mark Masters for an evening of hilarious stand-up comedy featuring Christie Buchele, Lila Bear, Eeland Stribling and local favorite T.J. Webb. If the jokes don’t hit the spot, the beer surely will. Free.




The Small Glories

Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m., Vilar Performing Arts Center, Beaver Creek

Heralded as one of the rising star duos in folk music, The Small Glories (Cara Luft of The Wailin’ Jennys and JD Edwards) perform blue-grass infected folk-pop elevated by an electric stage presence complete with witty banter and lighthearted chemistry. By drawing the audience in, you’ll find yourself laughing, crying and perhaps even taking to the aisles for a few do-si-dos. $28.
