When costume-clad daredevils whiz down Golden Peak and (try to) glide across the pool of melted snow at Vail Mountain’s World Pond Skimming Championships in April, they’ll have a new rallying cry: Powabunga! That’s also the name of a new music festival that debuted last spring, which will provide the chest-thumping soundtrack on stages at Golden Peak, Ford Park, and Vail Village during the resort’s annual closing day festivities (April 17–19, three-day general admission from $129; powabungafestival.com). At press time, event headliners included electronic music heavyweight Griz and DJ duo Kermesse, who will be making their US debut at the festival.

“We worked really hard to get it moved to closing weekend,” says Powabunga organizer Austin Gavlak, “and we think it will resonate with 25-to-35-year-old, young, active professionals and pump some new life into the pond skim.”

Especially if Gavlak’s wish is granted for an amenity tailored for that target demographic: bottle-serviced hot tubs for VIPs at the base of the pool. –KD
