The Valley's First Dedicated Cycling Studio Lands in Avon

If you like singletrack and SoulCycle, you'll love PeloDog—a boutique, bike-centric workout space in Avon.

The valley's first dusting of snow doesn't mean you have to mourn the end of cycling season as you know it—thanks to PeloDog, the valley's first dedicated cycling studio, which coincidentally opened the same week as Vail's first snowfall in early October.  Located in Traer Creek Plaza, the unit where the studio now sits was unoccupied until PeloDog founder Jen Kaplan (who also serves as a Board member for the local nonprofit the Cycle Effect) signed the lease this summer and started the build out on the refurbished space, which includes a small enclave for private pilates instruction, an upstairs locker room (complete with showers), and—of course—the cycling studio that houses 18 stationary bikes and a bumping sound system. Classes are reminiscent to a session at global cycling conglomerate SoulCycle—candlelit mood lighting, pulsing soundtrack—but without SoulCycle's signature choreography and with a more local take on interval workouts (like a "Vail Pass ride," where stationary cyclists crank their bike's resistance in an aerobic output similar to a push up the pass). That being said, classes aren't just aimed at the valley's elite athletes on two-wheels, and participants are welcome to power up or down to whatever resistance gets them sweating. "We genuinely want this to be open to everyone," says Kaplan, who owned a fitness studio in San Francisco before relocating to Vail 6 years ago. "If you can sit on a bike, you can ride here." Pro tip: After your ride, don't forget to high-five the dog behind PeloDog's namesake, Miller—a 12-year-old golden retriever—before you head out the door (monthly memberships starting at $119 per month, $30 for a drop-in class). pelodog.com, 970-431-1111
