Kentucky Derby soirees and Cinco de Mayo parties galore! It may be mud season, but there are plenty of reasons to celebrate this first weekend of May in the Vail Valley.

Legacy Fighting Alliance—Heinisch vs. Checco

May 4, 5 to 10 p.m., Dobson Ice Arena, Vail 

Fight night comes to Vail's Dobson Ice Arena, as Friday's main bout features Ian Heinisch, a Colorado state wrestling champion, and Gabriel Checco, a black belt with a Brazilian jiu-jitsu background. Tickets are a must for the event.


18th Annual Highway Cleanup & BBQ

May 2, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 12 to 2 p.m., Marker 148 to 150, Highway 24 & Broken Arrow Beaver Creek, Edwards

Two chances to clean up the neighborhood; the first with the Vail Valley Young Professionals Association as they work on Highway 24 from mile markers 148 to 150, and the second (featuring live music by local bluegrass band Hardscabble, food, local beer, and prizes) in Edwards with Eagle River Watershed Council.

Bridge Street Derby

May 5, 2 to 6 p.m., 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Co., Vail Village

A $35 entrance fee gets Kentucky Derby fans a commemorative mint julep cup (with one free cocktail), a chance to win prizes, and a heaping serving of BBQ at 10th Mountain Whiskey's Bridge Street tasting room.

Vail Derby Party

May 5, 3 to 6 p.m., Four Seasons, Vail Village

Grab your derby hat and your pinstripe suit, the Four Seasons is throwing a Kentucky Derby watch party, with all proceeds supporting the local Children's Garden of Learning ($34-$54).

Cinco de Mayo at Agave

May 5, 3 to 6 p.m., Agave Nightclub, Avon

Avon's spot for late-night beats is opening its doors early for a Cinco de Mayo bash, with house DJ Tropical Waffle spinning a free show in honor of the event.

Cinco de Mayo at Maya

May 5, 3:30 p.m., The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Avon

The Westin's culinary spot Maya will be dishing out Mexican fare at its all-you-can-eat taco bar (along with $5 margs) in honor of this 5th of May, plus special prizes for the mustache contest at 8 p.m.

Bikes & BBQ with The Cycle Effect and Moe's BBQ

May 5, 3:30 to 8 p.m., Moe's BBQ, Eagle

Join local nonprofit The Cycle Effect on a singletrack ride in Eagle before heading over Moe's BBQ for a raffle with prizes, brews, and, of course, barbecue eats.

Bonfire Brewing's Cinco de Mayo Celebration

May 5, 5 to 8 p.m., Bonfire Brewing, Eagle

Ray Merry and Alan Eckler provide the tunes for Bonfire's Cinco de Mayo party, and the brewpub will unveil its Mexican lager for the occasion.

Evening of Stars 2018

May 5, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Park Hyatt Resort & Spa, Beaver Creek

Eagle County recognizes teachers, staff, and volunteers at its public schools with an awards ceremony at the Park Hyatt ballroom.



May 6, 12 to 5 p.m., Brush Creek Park Pavilion, Eagle

Bring the whole family for a fundraiser benefitting the Mountain Tots Preschool, with a baked sale, arts and crafts, silent auction, and a bouncy castle on hand for the event.
