Looking for your perfect backcountry ski (or snowboard) setup for the coming winter season? Head over to Edwards' Alpine Quest to peruse lightly used telemark skis, AT bindings, and splitboard equipment (or drop off equipment on October 4 & 5 to have the crew at Alpine Quest sell it for you).

Yūgen the Film

October 5, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., Blue Starlite Cinema, Minturn

The valley's own Weston Snowboards hosts a screening of backcountry snowboarding documentary "Yūgen," with the film's producer/director/and athlete on hand to answer fan questions. Tickets start at $10, and the event is BYOB.


Gypsum Race Series Oktoberfest 5k

October 6, 9 a.m., Gypsum Rec Center, Gypsum

The Gypsum Race Series concludes with an Oktoberfest 5k starting and ending at the Gypsum Rec Center, although the littlest racers can enter into a one-mile dash ($5 for kids, $10 for adults).

Open House at Vail Fire and Emergency Services

October 6, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., West Vail Fire Station, West Vail

The West Vail Fire Station's free, family event is for kids (and adults) of all ages, and includes a BBQ luncheon, a meet and greet with local firefighters, and a chance to tour the station and check out the firetrucks.

Day two of Alpine Quest's backcountry swap kicks off Saturday.

Funky Bird Eclectibles Art Show

October 6, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Two Arrows Coffee, Vail Village

Local artist Shea Haddad will be on hand selling her handmade clay pieces, with mugs purchased at the event eligible for a discount coffee fill-up.

Hay Day at Mountain Valley Horse Rescue

October 6, 2 to 6 p.m., Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, McCoy

Mountain Valley Horse Rescue is welcoming the community up to the ranch for its 5th annual Hay Day event, with food, kids' activities, pony rides and more planned for the afternoon.

Dustin Lucas & Friends

Avon's Bavarian bierhaus Prosit has your music fix, with indie and blue rockers Dustin Lucas & Friends reliving the best of the 90s on Saturday night.
