4th of July Lights up the Sky over Nottingham Lake

The town of Avon hosts a do-over for this summer's cancelled 4th of July fireworks show.

Along with destroyed homes, displaced Colorado residents, and air quality warnings around the state due to last summer's explosive wildfire season and subsequent Stage 2 Fire Restrictions (which banned almost any type of open flame outside residential or commercial dwellings for the vast majority of the season), this past summer's hot and dry conditions had another deleterious consequence: the 4th of July fireworks show that annually lights up the sky over Nottingham Lake in Avon was abruptly cancelled due to conditions. That is, until now, as the Town of Avon is set to celebrate its Salute to the 4th on Friday, January 25 (5 to 8 p.m.), with its signature pyrotechnic display, and some winter perks, like (free!) ice skating and rentals, fire pits, and a visit from the valley's favorite taco truck, Rocky Mountain Taco. Also, on the lineup for the winter edition of Avon's Independence Day do-over? A Chilly Chili Cook-Off, open to any and all who think their recipe will bring the heat—and take home the cash prize that goes along with claiming the competition's number one spot. avon.org
