Best in Show: The Inn at Riverwalk Gets a Posh and Pet-Friendly Makeover
Three months and $3 million is what it took to complete the top-to-bottom, 60-room renovation that included upgrades to nearly every part of the hotel.
“Our objective was to create a space where guests could relax, be comfortable and enjoy the mountains,” said Kathy Treat, owner of The Inn at Riverwalk. “Based on feedback, I believe we’ve achieved that. Our guests tell us they’re thrilled about everything from the new lobby and guest rooms, to the Gear Garage and the fact that we welcome dogs with down-filled beds of their own. We put our heart and soul into this project and it shows.”
The project was spearheaded by a local team of professionals. Key members included Owner Kathy Treat, General Manager Matt Tabor, asset manager and owner of Evans Hospitality John Evans, marketing professionals at Hill Aevium, interior designers at Associates 3, architects at Zehren & Associates and general contractor Evans Chaffee Construction.
As part of the comprehensive remodel and rebranding strategy, The Inn at Riverwalk is now affiliated with Choice Hotels as a member of the Ascend Hotel Collection, affirming its status as a one-of-a-kind property with a fresh approach to hospitality.
The Inn at Riverwalk…as much a treat for people as pets.
The changes at The Inn at Riverwalk are immediately evident. Upon entering, a new reception area redefines the guest experience, leading to a cozy and comfortable lobby. A stone fireplace surrounded by modern furnishings is the focal point for the communal gathering space. Warm and inviting, it’s the perfect place to settle in with a book, play games with family and friends or get a little work done—all while Fifi or Fido snuggle nearby. Other new additions include a deluxe coffee bar, a sundry shop, a water bottle-filling station and Gear Garage—where guests can borrow outdoor equipment such as bikes and helmets or snowshoes to explore the area.
“The Inn at Riverwalk has been completely transformed,” Evans said. “It doesn’t feel like the same place. It’s amazing to me all we were able to accomplish in such a short period of time: The Inn was transformed to an upscale, boutique property in a matter of weeks. The property is a great value in the Vail Valley and has an incredibly helpful and friendly staff.”
The renovated property features 14 deluxe king and 46 double queen guest rooms—all designed to be “mountain modern.” ADA compliant rooms provide greater access and comfort for guests, while seven condominiums with one and two-bedroom configurations including fireplaces and kitchens, round out the offerings. Changes include new color schemes, flooring, ceilings, bathrooms and amenities, such as updated 43-inch flat screen televisions and device charging stations built into the bedside table lighting.
Accoutrements for canine companions at The Inn at Riverwalk include treats for dogs at the front desk and cozy pet beds that are available at check-in.
The hotel’s fitness room has been relocated to the adjacent 1st & Main building, an airy space with floor-to-ceiling windows that take advantage of the jaw-dropping north-facing Eagle River views. The outdoor pool and hot tub have been completely refurbished. The al fresco space also includes updated landscaping, a firepit for warming and ambiance, lounge chairs, tables and Adirondack-style seating.
For visiting skiers and snowboarders, the hotel provides shuttle service to both Arrowhead ski area and Beaver Creek resort. During the warm weather season, nearby activities include fly-fishing, rafting, kayaking and hiking, with the added convenience of 13 restaurants, over 26 boutique stores and a movie theater just steps away.
Like a dog with a bone, guests and pets couldn’t be happier with the results at The Inn at Riverwalk in Edwards, Colorado.
