It’s not by accident that when you step over the threshold into the Davidor jewelry boutique at 184 Gore Creek Drive, you cross beneath an arched doorway. When Davidor mastermind David Gusky first began designing jewelry, he looked to European architecture for inspiration. A shape he saw again and again was the arch.
From Italy’s Palladian villas to France’s Place Vendôme, the arch has universal appeal. “I chose it because wherever you go, you find that shape in some capacity,” says Gusky, whose studio is in Paris. “It’s a traditional European arch, but you also find it in Morocco and in Asia—everywhere has a version.” Even the building that housed his parents’ jewelry production and manufacturing business in northern Italy, the place that first introduced Gusky to the craft, featured the shape.
In addition to being a timeless symbol of strength and support, arches also create a window. “What do you see as you look through the arch?” asks Gusky. It is here, in this space, that he found his muse. “I didn’t want to just create more jewelry; I wanted something that was relatable.” And by this he means a concrete way of capturing a memory, a moment, or a point in time by matching a color to a place: riviera blue to evoke the Côte d’Azur, pastel green for Palm Beach, limoncello yellow for the lemon trees on the Isle of Capri. Even Vail has a signature color combination: neige white for freshly fallen snow set into a band of 18 karat gold.
To create a Davidor ring or bracelet, Gusky deftly melds one of the 16 signature colors of lacquered ceramic with repeating arches constructed out of white, yellow, or rose gold. The instantly classic pieces are so finely crafted, they almost glow from within. The rings and bracelets are stackable, and many customers return again and again to add to their collection. (Given the gold and ceramic options, there are more than 11,500 possible combinations.)
Davidor deals in diamonds too, all of which shine in the boutique’s trademark arch adorning necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. In fact, Davidor is one of only three brands to have a patented signature cut: the Davidor arch. This level of industry approval underscores Gusky’s craftsmanship. Although it was the family business in Miami that first got him interested in jewelry, Gusky went on to study jewelry design in Milan before moving to Paris and setting up shop in a historic atelier.
The Vail boutique is Davidor’s second in North America—other locations include the flagship in Bal Harbour Shops, Florida, along with Paris and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. But to Gusky, Vail felt like a natural fit. “I grew up spending part of the year in the Vail Valley. My parents had a house and it’s home away from home,” he says. In addition, Davidor baubles had already found a local following at the Betteridge Jewelers before it was purchased by Watches of Switzerland Group in 2021. When Davidor decided on Vail, Gusky chose lines and textures befitting of a mountain chalet, the boutique is meant to fit seamlessly into the heart of Vail. “Everything we do is very intentional,” he says.
