Gourmet on Gore

Friday (Sept. 1) through Monday (Sept. 4)

The main event this weekend is Gourmet on Gore, Vail's annual festival of all things food and drink with open-air tastings, gourmet seminars, and tasting tours on the menu. The open-air tasting kicks off Saturday, with restaurants from around the valley offer small plates for patrons to snack as they stroll. This year's festival has events for the active gourmand, too, with Saturday morning's pairing of community yoga and complimentary refreshments being the first opportunity to step into the weekend flow, and ticketed biking and hiking events offering some scenic ways to burn off the festival's calories. Don't miss Monday morning's brunch-themed open-air tasting as it takes over Vail Village for one final day. gourmetongore.com

Beaver Creek's Oktoberfest

Saturday (Sept. 2), 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. & Sunday (Sept. 3), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The first of the valley's several Oktoberfest celebrations kicks of Saturday, with local music man Helmut Fricker leading the weekend's revelries. A village-spanning beer garden, Bavarian costume contest, and plenty of live music will be the toast of the weekend, although if you're thinking all that beer and schnitzel might weigh you down, Sunday morning's 5k, 10k, and family 1k races kick off at the base of Chair 6 for some movement that doesn't involve a stein. beavercreek.com
