Reading Success Starts with A Love of Books

The Literacy Project of Eagle County’s Raising A Reader project is a powerful program that improves the reading skills of our youngest community members.  Unlike other literacy programs, Raising A Reader is based on engaging parents to help their children develop, practice and maintain literacy habits critical for a child’s success.  Many of a child’s literacy habits and abilities are formed before the age of eight. Children who are not reading at grade level by the time they are in third grade have a significantly lower chance of ever catching up. Each week, children bring home a different bag filled with beautiful, high-quality multicultural books to practice regular book sharing.  Parents receive training to develop the habit of sharing books with their children.
